RSS Submit Is a Neat Tool

I just upgraded my copy of RSS Submit. It’s a neat little tool.

Submits to most RSS search engines automatically except for some which require logins and have to be submitted manually.

It really cuts down on the time required to submit RSS feeds.

Why I Love RSS Feeds

God, I Love RSS!! And I'm saying this as a reader, not a publisher.

Let me count the reasons:

1. No spam

2. No ads (yet)

3. No more clutter in my inbox

4. No more inbox taking up MBs of data on my hard drive

5. No more saving newsletters to "read later" that I know will just clutter up aforementioned inbox and probably never get read (or even deleted)

6. No more taking ages just to download email with loads of huge images and HTML that clog up my ultra-slow connection

7. Being able to go and catch up on my favourite newsletters or blogs anytime I feel like it - just like relaxing and reading a newspaper

Can you add any more reasons here? Maybe we can make this the longest "Why I Love RSS" list there is ;)

Using RSS For Marketing

This article from Clickz.com talks about the challenges publishers and marketers face while switching from email to RSS as a mode of publishing.

If you are concerned about false positives, are serious about opt-in, and have content your customers or prospects want, take a look at RSS. The barriers to entry are low, and the potential return is high, says the author, Jeanne Jennings.

To get people to opt in to your marketing messages, must-read content is essential, she advises. Promising discounts and special promotions may work in some instances (consumer packaged goods and other frequent or repeat purchase items come to mind); in other cases you'll need more compelling messages to motivate readers to receive your RSS feed.

They might now have ll the bells and whistles of FeedForAll and NewzAlert Composer but they will do what you need.

RSS Builder is an easy to use service to create RSS feeds for your web site. It provides a simple interface that lets you add topics, links and content, and then publish the RSS (v2.0) feed to your web server with one click! This service is absolutely free of charge.

RSS Headliner will also help you create an RSS feed. First select how many headlines you want your feed to have. Then fill in the form with links, titles and descriptions. Click on the "Make the Code" button. Then click on the "what does it look like button" to preview your headlines. That all it takes!

The ListGarden RSS Feed Generator Program is a tool for manually creating and maintaining RSS feeds. The resulting XML file may be stored locally or automatically copied to a remote web server using FTP. ListGarden can produce an optional companion HTML file for human browsers to read. It also has basic list-maintenance functions making it useful as a simple list manager. The RSS XML and HTML files can be uploaded to any web storage.
